If someone is still thinking the device is gathering energy from human-made sources (like radio stations) I'm just adding here a video fragment showing it's not the case. Watch this video from to 07:26 to 16:58.
I set the video to start directly at the explanation about actually how small the energy of the radio stations is:
So we're talking about micro-volts per second. So there is no way to light two big LEDs at every 2-3 seconds by gathering a few uV per second from the radio stations.
And the same things about other radio emitters, I tried that by shutting down my router's wireless emissions (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and I saw no effect on the behavior of the device.

Let me guess, were they looking for a hidden battery somewhere ? Maybe a small battery in those capacitors ? How else could this thing work ?! 😄

It will work forever, mine is working since March, Editor and AlteredUnity built theirs also in March (you can find them in this thread) and Jagau's prototype (the original) is working for more than two years.

If you look closely at the circuit construction, It is a ambient micro generator,
I built this circuit a few years ago and for more than two years the mine has worked very well without any external source, only the ambient provided the necessary voltage.
the voltage doubler is the bridge diode at the begining who charge the capacitor and after some time the bjt circuit pulse the LED and a flash appear.
Try it you will love it.

You did a very nice job with this DSE coil, it's very clean.
For your question about the micro generator, in my case it was more beneficial as it increased the metal surfaces but in no case should they touch each other, only the ambient air separates them. I used two metal heads of the work lamp, the third mass is natural earth, our good old earth.

Sorry for the late reply, I have some available time and I'm working on the coils for the DSE experiment.
From my experiments with the device I saw more energy can also be gathered by increasing the metallic surface on the input. The effect is the same: increased frequency of the flashing or brighter luminosity of the flashes. Depending on the settings (from the variable resistors) we can use the increased energy on input for one or another.
Is this method (additional separate metallic surface and half diode bridge) more effcient than connecting the additional metallic surface to the first metallic surface ? Just asking, maybe this is more efficient than just increasing the first metallic surface.
I will return to the work on the coils, the first half of the coil is ready but I still have work to do on the second half... 🙂
I need to make precise measurements (wire length and the number of turns) as my goal is to build the two halves of the coil identical so their natural resonant frequency to be the same or as close as possible.
That will be very useful later as I'll use them in multiple scenarios as Don Smith shown to us.
I'll come with more details in the DSE thread when I finish and I make the measurements (their resistance and capacitance).
