this is for everyone who wants to have full options on Rigol MSO5000 series...

1) download zip-file from this post.

2) extract and have a look at readme.txt

---
Update Rigol to Firmware 1.03.00.01
Data from Rigol Website: MSO5000(ARM)Update v00.01.03.00.01.rar (70,1 MB)
Extract DS5000Update.GEL (70,1 MB) and copy to USB-stick.
---
USB-stick (2GB FAT) - not every stick works for some reason...
---
On oscilloscope do a local update (USB).
Then reboot MSO5000
---
Delete content from USB-stick after flashing and copy 3 files on root of usb-stick.
01_03_00_01.bspatch (234 bytes)
DS5000Update.GEL (133,1 kB)
patch.txt (167 bytes)
---
Then do a local update on MSO5000 again.
follow instructions on screen.
restart, done!

16.10.2023: i just updated all scopes to new 1.03.03.00 firmware. you can find archive as attachment.

enjoy

Yes i love it too, very impressive statistic here Alteredunity.

Will follow with an switching power supply to see results with non linear load to see difference with linear load.

I love the features given by this scope. Another great addition is the impedance value given, I sometimes use that to calculate the inductance of a coil at different frequencies.

In order to get to know this new working tool, the Power Analyzer, I took an incandescent lamp and compared the results on my oscilloscope with this new working tool.

Below is the 7W incandescent lamp according to the manufacturer and you see

on the DDM 59 ma AC with a mains voltage of 114 V AC

and on the power analyzer of the oscilloscope we see the real power

With differential probe at input and curent probe on one lamp wire the power analyseris correct indicate real power of 6.4647 watts precisely. A very good tool to have.

Will make test with switching power supply next

Got new scope setup and upgraded, pretty impressed  with everything.

Here is an example of the bode plot function with an RC filter.

R = 1.192k ohms

C = 101.47nF

cuttoff frequency(1/(2piRC)) = 1.31585 khz

Right at about -45 degree phase shift we get -3.0008dB, which is pretty spot on at 1.315khz!

Ok my friend, very good.

I am slowly discovering this new power analysis software which has several subtleties. The current probe and the voltage on a differential voltage probe are, I believe, the best way to take measurements that can be relied upon.

I try different ways and the measurements change drastically, now I know that the measurements with my Fluke DDMs when we exceed only 2Khz are not good, those of the oscilloscope are accurate, this is a statement that I was eager to verify now I am sure of it.

I discovered a lot of usefulness in this software which will be very practical in my future research.

By sharing our observations together, I believe we will have a better understanding of our measurements.

it depends on many factors. if i 'invert' the channel on this particular circuit the -P went up. so i decided to work with the least amount of negative active power. when you have more than 90° phase-shift things will get weird.

but as always - good point my friend!

Hello Bearn

For the image of the power analyzer above, the power displayed is negative power in your table.

I also noticed this type of display sometimes in mine, but by reversing the polarity of my current probe the power became positive, what seems more appropriate.

The arrow on the current probe should always point toward the ground of the source.

Hi Bearn

We could even connect to a private network on different remote computers with IP adress, and see in real time the searches carried out, very interesting this VNC, virtual network connection..

One of the features I like is the HDMI output, I put it on my big 60 inch HDTV, wow what a picture.

They also sells touch screens remote from the scope.

This will definitely be something to try VNC all together.

There are several other interesting features in this scope, including the two 25 Mhz arbitrary signal generators that can be activated on different channels, that I discover every day.

with new firmare its possible to have vnc connection, which is much faster than compared to web-interface.

I continued the investigations into the performance of the MSO5354 scope and with my

TinySA as function generator (0 to 900Mmz) which with a termination of 50 ohms at the input of Ch1

I easily reach 350Mhz more precisely 362 Mhz after this cut, this with attenuation at 0 db, wonderful

The rise time is almost 1 nanosec, more precisely 0.9 nanosecond, or 900 ps, wonderful and very satisfied.

Which corresponds to 0.35 / BW     0.35 / 350= 1 nanosec risetime.

The next analysis will be on the power analysis software.
