The different ways to charge a battery

I also have purchased the smaller Universal Charger, which refurbishes all types of batteries. I started the large battery project with it, but because it was intended for smaller batteries I thought I should use the industrial types to speed up the process.

The Universal charger has given new life to my collection of automotive batteries, as long as the cells have not swelled too much from winter freezing. I have dozens of 10+ year old refurbished batteries: 26 were 7V Prius "BAD" NiMH modules that I got online, which are ~20 years old.

I accidently revived a Lithium razor battery thinking it was NiMH, which is not recommended, however, the charger was very effective nonetheless.

Every experimenter should have something like this, to keep ALS batteries desulfated and NiMH at full capacity. If you have not made your own radiant energy battery charger, consider getting something like the RC-1AU Universal Battery Charger.

Hi Inception
In your manual, the equalization is well described, as is the procedure.

I'll check to see if someone has changed my initial setup. It should still be good. Thanks, Jagau,

I just began revitalizing a large AGM 12V battery used for operating a snow plow.

The radiant charger was charging at 17.7 volts when the battery was initially at ~11 volts.

My experience has been that most 12 volt batteries in constant use fail at ~11 volts which indicates a single cell failure. The failed cell is usually the one with the + post attached. Noticeable sulfation covers that battery post.

Hi guys,

At Jagau's request I moved all the batteries-related posts here so we can have them in a specific thread.

If I missed any related post just let me know and I'll move it here too.

Hi Inception

Unfortunately, the maximum lifespan I've reached with a controlled charge is between 12 and 14 years. I've never managed to do better, which is still pretty good.

Check if your batteries are nearing the end of their life by checking the installation date. Your charge controller seems very efficient, and all good things must come to an end, sorry.

yes that chart is for Flooded Lead Acid, you must add water.

Sealed Lead Acid  or any lead acid battery that you can not add water to

the 14.8 max volts is prober voltage, as a higher voltage will boil out any water

and ruin the battery. Check the manufacturer of battery...

i do battery charginge with analoge pulsing circuit. like the famous ReEmf-charger invented by some guy from the netherlands i think.

here is a screenshot from the action..

CH2 is positive pole from battery and on CH4 is minus pole from battery. when the pulse happen (ch1) the polarity of battery changes. the negative pole is more positive, than the positive pole itself. by doing so the battery gets 'refreshed' or can 'repair' itself. CH3 is the current which is highly reactive.

this is my circuit if someone like to replicate.

Baerndorfer,

I'm putting your charger on my wish list. Have you made any circuit boards for it?

i made some pcb's for testing but i have no final version. the bigger 'problem' is building a proper housing for e-core system.
